Manufactring expiration dating policy
When dating is indicated by month and year only and no specific date is otherwise stated on the label or elsewhere, the product is expected to meet specifications until the last day of the month. The Recommended Retest Date is the end of a period of time during which the batch is expected to remain within established specifications if stored under Sigma-Aldrich’s defined conditions.Depending upon the nature of the product, review the appearance and quality on a regular basis.Decomposition data is available on the Safety Data Sheet which should be on file with the company. For those materials where shelf life information is a requirement, expiration and retest periods are available at the batch level.IVD products that are expiration dated will have the expiration date found on the product labels. The only date shown on the certificate of analysis will be the Quality Release date. For these products there is no stated expiration or recommended retest date, and the shelf life has not been determined.
Our inventory is continually monitored and swept of products approaching the expiration and re-test date.Sigma-Aldrich recommends handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions.Sigma-Aldrich further suggests following industry laboratory practices of using products with no expiration date or retest dates within 5 years of opening. This could be part of the laboratory standard operating procedure (SOP).
